KiwiSaver withdrawal
A KiwiSaver first-home withdrawal is handled through your provider or scheme supervisor. Current general rules include at least three years’ membership, leaving $1,000 in the account, and intending to live in the property. Confirm your provider’s current requirements before relying on the funds.
Previous home ownership
A person who has owned a home or land before may need a Kāinga Ora determination before the provider can assess whether the first-home withdrawal pathway applies. Ask both organisations about the current process and timing.
First Home Loan
Kāinga Ora First Home Loan may allow an eligible buyer to apply with a deposit as low as 5% through participating lenders. It has separate criteria, lender assessment, and insurance or pricing implications; it is not an approval guarantee.
Keep programme information current
The former First Home Grant is closed to new applications. Government products, limits, eligibility, fees, and provider processes can change, so use the current official page and lender or provider confirmation rather than an old article or calculator.
Build the evidence trail
Keep the provider confirmation, identity documents, deposit history, family-gift or loan documents, solicitor details, and settlement timing together. Do not treat a scheme indication as cleared funds until the provider confirms the process.
